2011 World Team Chess Championship kicks off in Ningbo, China

2011 World Team Chess Championship kicks off in Ningbo, China. The event will be held from July 15 to July 26 at the playing venue in New Century Grand Hotel Ningbo. According to FIDE Regulations, the following Federations have sent a team: China (host country); Russia (winner 2009); Ukraine (Olympiad 2010); Israel (Olympiad 2010); Hungary (Olympiad 2010); Azerbaijan (Europe qualifier); India (Asia qualifier); USA (America's qualifier); Egypt (African qualifier); Armenia (FIDE President's nomination). The championships will be played using a 9 round, round-robin system. The time control: 90' for 40 moves + 30' to the end + 30'' increment per move, staring from move 1. Zero tolerance rule will apply and draw offers can not be made for the first 30 moves. Each match will be scored by match points as used in the FIDE Olympiad. Winner will get 2 points, a draw will give each team 1 point, and a loss is scored as 0 points. Earlier, Armenia captain Arshak Petrosian announced his team - Levon Aronian, Sergei Movsesian, Vladimir Akopian, Gabriel Sargissian and Armenia 2011 champion Robert Hovhannisyan.

Aronian and Karjakin top field for World Chess Team Championship starting Sunday

Levon Aronian and Sergey Karjakin are the leading players in a strong field gathered for the World Team Championship which start in Ningbo, China on Sunday 17th July. There is at the time of writing no official site nor official team listings but all the teams are known. A couple of players caught my eye. Peter Leko returns to chess after a long break. Yasser Seirawan continues his return to over the board chess started at the US Championship. Some missing players include Vladimir Kramnik (playing Dortmund), Boris Gelfand, Hikaru Nakamura, Ruslan Ponomariov and Viswanathan Anand doesn't play team events for India anymore.
